About Bowen University Library

Bowen University Library also known as Timothy Olagbemiro Library was established in the year 2002 at the outset of the establishment of the university. It was accommodated in the old Baptist College Library (referred to as Simon Memorial Library) and extended in 2005 to create a bigger space and a more conducive environment for studying. In 2009, the university commenced the building of a two-storey library complex with a seating capacity of about 1,000 users at a time. The building was completed, dedicated on the 3rd of November 2012, and her occupation commenced in October 2013. It was named after the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor T.O. Olagbemiro.

The Library has two divisions – Information Resources and Access Management (IRAM) and Information Research and Instruction Services (IRIS).

The Library has two branches, the Law Library, located at the former University Library (Simon’s Library) and the Medical Library, located at the Bowen University Teaching Hospital (BUTH), Ogbomoso. The entire Library system has a total of 61 staff members, both professionals and para professionals.

The library automated its functions of acquisitions, cataloguing, serials and circulation control using the Koha Library Management Software in September 2007 and is working till date.

The library has electronic libraries (E-Lib) located at the T.O. Library and at the branch libraries, all connected to the internet which makes it possible for the library users to access online resources, including the databases to which the library subscribes.

The library has Reprography Units at the main and the branch libraries.

The library provides a comprehensive information service to serve the needs of teaching, learning and research for the University’s approximately 4,500 students and about 850 full time teaching and non teaching staff members.
